HKIFF41 presents the Premiere of Will You Be There?
Acclaimed Korean star Ms CHAE Seo-jin and Director Ms HONG Ji-young
Visit Hong Kong to greet the audience

17 April 2017 (Hong Kong) – Will You Be There?made its premiere at The Grand Cinema tonight, with acclaimed Korean star Ms CHAE Seo-jin and Director Ms HONG Ji-young in attendance. Based on Guillaume MUSSO’s novel, this sci-fi time-travel romance explores the conflict between gain and lost in a relationship.

Director Ms HONG Ji-young was asked the reason why she adapted the novel story to this film, she explained “I was touched when I read the novel for the first time, I would love to share the story to the big screens for all film-lovers. I have been hoping to work on different types of films and it was wonderful to have my first attempt to direct a time-travel film.” In order to tally with the plot of the original novel, Will You Be There? was filmed in Seoul, Busan, and Cambodia. This made director HONG facing the challenge of language barrier and filming with kids at the same time. “Filming overseas, faraway inland, 85-year-old elders, kids speaking foreign language, limited helicopters – all these added burden to the casts and crew members.” The crew members were required to bellow when the helicopter was operating. Everybody got hoarse voice every day, but this is the most memorable part for the casts and crew members.

Lead Ms CHAE Seo-jin also shared her filming experience, “I am very glad to participate in this film as I love the story very much. It is a big challenge for me as an actress of a time travel and love story comparing to my work before. It was a great experience to work with director HONG. I appreciated her a lot for giving me this chance. I hope the audience would like my performance.”

Will You Be There?: A grieving surgeon (KIM Yun-seok), diagnosed with a terminal disease, comes into possession of a magical drug that allows him to travel back in time. But while visiting the young woman he once loved, he also crosses paths with his younger self. Based on Guillaume MUSSO’s novel, director HONG Ji-young (The Naked Kitchen, 2009 Summer IFF) weaves a compelling story that is part romantic melodrama, part sci-fi thriller. If you could live your life again, what would you change?
