HKIFF41 presents the World Premiere of The Sleep Curse
Actors Anthony WONG, Michelle WAI and Bryant MAK greet the audience

17 April 2017 (Hong Kong) – The Sleep Curse, directed by renowned local director Herman YAU,makes its World Premiere at the 41st Hong Kong International Film Festival tonight. Acclaimed actors Anthony WONG, Michelle WAI and Bryant MAK attended the inaugural screening at The Grand Cinema and met with the audience. As this director’s cut version will only be shown during the Festival period, tickets of the two screenings were sold out quickly.

Anthony WONG said, “I have worked with Herman in numerous films Since The Untold Story. It is the first time in over 20 years for me to reprise the psychopathic blood-curding role. I am glad that our minds are still in sync.” He also joked that the audience should think twice before entering the cinema tonight.

Michelle WAI also expressed, “I was very nervous and worried about my performance when I knew I would be performing with the two best actors, Anthony and Gordon. At the same time I was very excited to play this challenging dual role.”

In The Sleep Curse, “The King of Gore” Herman YAU returns with a gruesome tale that follows the cursed life of a young translator who collaborated with the enemy during Japan’s wartime occupation. He is tormented by guilt after turning his back on the comfort women who were mercilessly murdered. Forty-five years later, his sin comes back to haunt his son, a professor specializing in sleeping disorders who begins a terrible experiment to exorcise his father’s ghost.
